Two weeks and counting. Trump sets the game clock.

CIA Director John Ratcliffe has said in closed-door meetings that Iran is viewed as being very close to possessing nuclear weapons, a senior Trump administration official told NBC News.

That conclusion which has not changed since March, when Tulsi Gabbord testified that Iran had accrued a large amount of enriched uranium, but had still not decided to build a nuclear weapon.

Trump and Ratcliffe — and, notably, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — have been framing the same intelligence, however, to argue the situation is much more urgent and that time is running out to prevent Iran from securing a nuclear weapon.

The International Atomic Energy Agency and U.S. officials have said that Iran has enough enriched uranium to make up to 10 bombs, but it would then take months to more than a year to build the weapon itself.
